It’s time for a really awkward Sunday, and this time it will be especially awkward. Send in some of your awkward stories or experiences, maybe a poem you wrote as fourteen, an excerpt from your childhood diary, cliché songs you’ve written, or the weirdest thing you have experienced at Samfunnet. Most people have heard about fake news, but recently fake science has also become an issue. Dag O. Hessen claims that the life of researcher can be compared to a rat race where time is mostly spent on writing applications for money for projects that need to fulfill stricter requirements for short-term benefits. At the same time the commercial influence on academia is rising, while politicians all around the world choose to look away from scientific insights. This threatens the core values for the modern western society: the seek for truth, enlightenment and a scientific way of thinking.

Come to ask your questions to an experienced scientist which recently published a book about fake science.

Høyere utdanning: en rettighet eller en vare?

SAIH Ås inviterer til panelsamtale om høyere utdanning og kommersialisering.

Alle bør ha lik tilgang til høyere utdanning, uansett hvor de kommer fra i samfunnet. Men; i senere tid har høyere utdanning og forskning blitt mer og mer kommersialisert. Prisen for å gå på universitetet øker, i mange land er høyere utdanning kun tilbudt via private institusjoner. Forskere blir avhengig av økonomisk støtte, noe som kan påvirke deres arbeid og hva de forsker på. Hva slags konsekvenser har kommersialisering av høyere utdanning? Er høyere utdanning en rettighet eller en vare? Hvorfor er det viktig for alle å ha lik tilgang til høyere utdanning? Hva har dette å si for forskningen i akademia? I panelsamtalen vil vi diskutere hvilken rolle universitetet har og bør ha i samfunnet, konsekvensene av at høyere utdanning blir sett på som en vare, og hvorfor alle bør ha lik tilgang til høyere utdanning.

Arrangementet vil foregå på engelsk.

Higher education: a right or a commodity?

SAIH Ås invites you to a panel discussion about higher education and commercialization.

Everyone should have the same access to higher education, no matter where they are from in society. But; in later times higher education and research have become more and more commercialized. The cost of going to university is rising, higher education is only offered through private institutions in some countries. Researchers are getting depended on financial support, which might affect their work and what they research. What are the consequences of commercializing higher education? Is higher education a right or a commodity? Why is it important that everyone have the same access to higher education? How does this affect research in academia? In the panel discussion we will discuss what role university has and should have in society, the consequences of higher education being seen as a commodity, and why everyone should have the same access to higher education.

The event will be in English.

NMBU Sosialistiske Studenter har skapt en ny vri på en gammel klassiker. Demokratispillet er en spennende og morsom variasjon av det klassiske monopolspillet, hvor spillerne for å oppleve et samfunn hvor velferden er ulikt fordelt og demokratiets grunnpilarer står i fare for å knekke sammen. Spillet vil sette lys på politiske dilemmaer, samt ulike etiske spørsmål vedrørende, skatt, helse, infrastruktur og velferdsordninger. «Brettets» oppbygning vil trekke inn kjente og kjære adresser fra vårt lille studentsamfunn, Inferno, Jubilo, ABC, Verket, Eplehagen og Kringla er alle med i Demokratispillets eiendommer.

Kort og godt vil Demokratispillet vil sette lys på rettferdighet, samspill, samfunnsforståelse og etikk ved hjelp av ramme verket til påskeferiens høydepunkt, nemlig Monopol.

I tillegg til spillet vil det være åpent for diskusjon og hyggelige samtaler om hvordan samfunnet skal utvikle seg videre.

NMBU Socialist Students have created a twist on an old classic.

The Democracy Game is a fun and exciting variation of the classical Monopoly game, where the players get to experience a society where the welfare is uneven distributed and the pillars of democracy are at the risk of collapsing. The game will shine a light on political dilemmas, and different ethical questions regarding taxes, health, infrastructure and welfare systems. The “board” will be divided in famous and dear addresses from our little student society, Inferno, Jubilo, ABC, Verket, Eplehagen and Kringla is all different properties in the Democracy Game.

In short, the Democracy Game will shine a light on justice, interaction, understanding of society, and ethics, all with the help of the highlight of easter break: Monopoly.

In addition to the game, it will be open for discussion and friendly conversations on how society should develop.

Volleyball is considered to be the world's biggest sport, both counting member countries with athletes in national volleyball associations, and the number of athletes. Over a billion people play volleyball worldwide, and there’s more than 220 countries in the international volleyball association, FIVB, Federation Internationale de Volleyball.

As of 2007, volleyball was the 9th biggest sport in Norway, measured by the number of licensed athletes.

So it’s only fair that Samfunnet has a Volleyball cup!
